Does the fact that the church insisted earth was at the center of the universe diminish their credibility?

If the church is affected by the holy spirit in its teachings and they used to teach the geocentric model (not only teach, but punish severely those opposed to it), then what affect does that have on the church's and the holy spirit's (from whom the church supposedly got the idea) credibility?|||They had credibility?|||In one instance, the bible uses the word "church" to describe an angry mob. Just because something is called a church, does not mean it represents God, even if sometimes it does. If the earth is not the geometric center of the universe, it does not mean that it is not the center of purposes in the universe.

At very least, that could make sense concerning anything having to do with mankind. We do all, in fact, live here. Regardless, the beliefs and actions of people, do not, and are not worthy or relative enough credentials to diminish the credibility of God. Indeed the scriptures say "Let God be true and every man a liar". The thoughts or behaviors of people, on individual or sociological scales, does not encompass enough consideration to diminish the potential for considerations of the credibility of the concept or belief in God. You could never understand something all Good, by having mental focus on all or any of all the negatives in the world. Focusing on what you can find negative even about people, tends to lack, for what good can even be seen, of even them.|||There are some figurative uses of language in the bible such as you or I would use in every day life.

I could say my son is the center of my world because everything I do revolves around him. Someone else could say Earth is the center of the universe because everything explored about the universe has a starting point at the Earth.

So no diminished credibility for the church.|||Daddy, I have to assume when you reference the church you mean the Roman Universal Catholic Church who with the power of the Roman Government behind them rules the church world--but not all churches yielded to their doctrine nor their dominance.

It was their position that the earth was the center of our universe--our world. Limited in having conflicting data, it would appear to the average person that the earth is the center. All the scientist agreed until someone could prove otherwise--that is not leading by the Holy Spirit--I doubt he was questioned. I watch a black cow eat green grass, give white milk and yellow butter--do I need to question the Holy Spirit on that matter even if I teach it? You have the role of the Holy Spirit mixed up.

Now to your base question--does the teaching by the church(I assume the Roman Universal Catholic Church) that the earth is the center of the universe diminish their credibility---no I do not think so. However their teaching of doctrine that is contrary to the teachings of Jesus does. Their practice of Christianized rituals that are truly pagan does. The Christianizing of Christian sacraments like the Lord's Supper and Baptism making them into rituals to attract people does diminish their credibility. Deifying Mary the mother of Jesus and three brothers and at least two sister does diminish their credibility.|||Hello, Daddy:

I think you are referring to the RCC. I just finished a full year of reading every Christian document for the first two centuries and they believed the earth was part of God's Universe.

But today, scientists are supporting Earth's geocentricity. By studying waveforms from different galaxies and clusters of galaxies, it shows the entire universe is revolving around earth.

Of course Big Bangers don't like this because they think Earth is part of a random mixture.

Geocentricity speaks of a Creator and Purpose in placing our galaxy where it is.

Let me find you a link: EDIT: http://wn.com/Fusion_Pulsed_Power_Resear鈥?/a>

Messiah|||Well, since Roman Catholicism is no where close to being "the church"...the only thing it did was diminish the credibility of Roman Catholicism even more.

The Bible is full of scientific facts that were known in Old Testament times to anyone who cared to know the truth instead of making up weird stories like the Romans and Greeks did.

For example, the Hebrews, then the Israelites, knew not to worship stars and the moon or any other heavenly bodies. The Egyptians went their own way ie Ra, the sun "god" or the Muslims with Allah, the moon "god".

They knew the earth was round.

They knew that life was in the blood.

I don't want to write a long list, but I'm sure you can go to a website that even straight out lists all of the scientific facts listed in the Bible, even BEFORE man considered them to be scientific facts. Start in Genesis and you'll see them all for yourself.|||You are referring to the Roman Catholic Church which is opposed to the true knowledge of Jesus Christ and deceitfully uses His name to replace Him with themselves. It is Christ's greatest enemy in this world today.

Your unawareness of this truth diminishes your credibility.|||The church does not believe that now. The church isn鈥檛 always perfect and the Holy Spirit did inspire theology that embraced that teaching. So, next problem ...|||It was also a Christian that discovered the opposite so credibility regained.|||Only the Catholic Church insisted this, which was what the Pope Commanded, not God.|||science thought the earth was on the backs of turtles...i dont think science is old enough to understand alot of the things it preaches|||Who insisted that?|||I don't think they had any credibility in the first place.|||Anything based on the ideas of men, lacks credibilty

Which is why I rely on God
