What does 'credibility' mean in the simplest way possible?

I'm reading a band's interview and they're talking about credibility and I have no clue what it means.|||Normally, credibility is a synonym for believability. In the context of an article about a band, it refers to whether they have a good reputation or not. A band with a bad reputation or no reputation for worthwhile performances is not going to get many gigs. Put another way, just "going to Hollywood" on American Idol gives a singer immediate credibility no matter how many years they may have been trying to break into the industry on their own.|||in that context, how much people like them in comparison to others in their genre








In most contexts it means how believable they are.|||Whenever you don't know a word's meaning, you need to look it up in a dictionary.
