How to trust credibility of builders?

We have our own house in Delhi. We want to get it constructed through builder collaboration, where he takes one floor and gives cash to us also. My concern is as to how to trust a builder's credibility and what is the procedure of going about it.

Whether it is residential, commercial, etc. they should be able to provide you with their own experience with whatever builder you choose. My father and brother's own a construction company that's been in business for 30+ years and that's what everyone does. We are 90% of the time required to provide references, as if applying for a job. Also, don't get an estimate from one builder. Find a couple. Ask people you know for builders that they have used!
